What’s what with Affiliate Marketing

So I probably get about 5 emails a day with subjects like this:

How he makes over $100,000 w/3 buck sites…. (every single month)

It’s always some sensationalist subject, and no doubt it gets a response, but it’s always for some product launch. It also always seems to be from someone who is an unknown in the Internet Marketing industry.

I’ve been doing internet marketing for just on 4 years now, I’ve made some money, banked a bunch of checks but learnt so much more.

I thought I’d share some of my observations, specifically in the Affiliate Marketing industry.
1. If they claim to make millions, they probably don’t. I’ve met some people who make serious money online with Affiliate Marketing, but none of them run around boasting about how much money they make. It’s normally other people who point out that Joe Soap is the money when it comes to Marketing things.

2. If they haven’t been around for a while, they are probably talking crap anyway. You don’t jump into Affiliate Marketing today and make millions tomorrow. Overnight success takes years to build.

3. If you want to learn how to make money with Affiliate Marketing then you need to pay attention to people who are genuine and get it right. There are dozens of guides available online, that explains to you exactly how to make money using affiliate marketing, but none of them can give you the insight to watching someone do it for real. So find a mentor and watch them, and learn from them.

4. Do some yourself. Try and make some money with Affiliate Marketing doing some of the things you’ve observed from others. You won’t make a killing initially, but that’s ok. Just keep at it. Look at what works and what doesn’t, and make changes accordingly.

There really is money in Affiliate Marketing, but it’s not as easy as buying a guide online for $99 and cashing in tomorrow. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, there are certainly some lucky people out there who have experiences real over night success, but they are the exception, not the rule.
