Narrowing your list of topics

by Shawn Jooste on April 28, 2008

In my previous post  I spoke about making a list of things you were interested in, or good at or thought would make a suitable topic for starting a blog on. Today I want you to sit down and have a careful look at what you’ve written down, and narrow the list to your 5 strongest areas. The 5 areas you know the most about, or have the biggest interest in.

Focusing on the areas you’re most interested in makes the whole blogging process easier. In the beginning you’ll have days when you write a nice long post, only to have 3 people show up and read it. This is where a topic you’re passionate about makes it a whole lot easier to keep going. You can easily spend your time writing about your passion, and ignore the visitors. But when you write about a topic you’re not passionate about, then it’s not so easy.

The beauty of the Internet is that no matter what your topic is, you can easily find readers. You may not get a million RSS subscribers, but you can get a market. There are people out there who have an interest in what you want to blog about. You’re reach is global.

Over the next few day’s I want to give you some examples of what is possible, and we’ll have a look at some really obscure blogs that are doing really really well.
