The single biggest reason that people fail when it comes to internet marketing is that they are unable to get enough traffic, or the right kind of traffic. The reasons that people can’t get visitors to their site are many but they are usually related to poor planning. The truth is that most internet marketers don’t really have a plan at all, they just make it up. Performing at your peak as an internet marketer means having the discipline to come up with a plan and then carry out this plan. Most internet marketers will never do this. There is a myth that it is difficult to make money online because there is so much competition, this isn’t actually true. While there are a lot of people trying to make money online, the vast majority will fail. These marketers aren’t really competitors, there are actually only a small number of competitors that you really need to worry about.
The first thing that you are going to need to do if you want to make money online is decide just how you plan to make money. A shocking number of internet marketers don’t really consider this until it’s too late, they seem to be under the impression that if they can get enough visitors the money will follow. This isn’t actually true, look at YouTube and Facebook if you need examples, they get lots of visitors but they don’t actually make any money. A monetization plan should be the first thing that you consider if you want to make money online. Performing at your peak when it comes to internet marketing requires that you know right from the start how you plan to make money.
There are lots of different options when it comes to making money online so there is no reason to choose an inappropriate monetization strategy, unfortunately that is what a lot of internet marketers do. It is absolutely critical that you choose a way to make money that is relevant to your site, if you are promoting products that are unrelated to the content of your site you are not going to make any money. You also want to make sure that you are promoting quality products, far too many internet marketers promote a product simply because it has a high commission. If the products you are promoting are garbage you are not going to make any sales. If you aren’t a good salesman you probably don’t want to be promoting affiliate products, you would probably do better with Adsense. While it is never a bad idea to try to expand your skills by trying something new you also need to keep in mind that it will take longer to start making money if you need to learn new skills along the way. It is also important to keep in mind that you only want one type of monetization on your site. When you see a site that has dozens of affiliate products as well as Adsense and banner ads on it you know that marketer doesn’t know what he is doing. This is the point where many experts would tell you that you should consider your strategy for getting traffic. There is really no reason to do that, there is only one way to get traffic. Despite what a lot of so called experts will tell you if you are trying to make money online the only way to get traffic is through Search Engine Optimization. All other forms of traffic generation are a complete waste of time from a marketing standpoint. Search engine traffic are the only visitors who actually buy anything online. You will make far more money with a small number of search engine visitors than you will with thousands of social visitors.
The next step is to decide on the topic of your website. You will notice that we haven’t even thought about this until after we have decided how we are going to make money and how we are going to get visitors. This is where a lot of marketers go wrong, they start with a topic and then try to figure out how to make money. Another common mistake is to choose a topic out of interest, in order to perform at your peak as an internet marketer you need to get out of this mindset. You will want to create websites about profitable topics, not interesting ones. You are far more likely to make money with a website about clearing acne than you are about football. This is what the successful internet marketers do and it is what you will need to do as well. It’s boring, which is why most marketers won’t do it, but that is also part of what makes it profitable, there is far less competition.
So how do you choose a profitable topic for your website? The answer is keyword research. Most people think of keyword research as a means of getting traffic to their website and it is certainly capable of doing that, but it is also a useful way to decide on the topic of your blog. The goal is to find keywords that are profitable and for which you can get your site to rank well in the search engines. Ideally you should be able to find a about thirty of them for your website, if not you probably don’t have a good topic. The exact method used to do your keyword research will vary depending on your skills and experience. Making sure that you have chosen a profitable topic for your website is critical for performing at your peak as an internet marketer.
You will probably notice that we have done a lot of work and we still haven’t even started building our website. This is different from what the vast majority of internet marketers do and it is the reason that most of them will fail. Now that we know how we plan to make money and get traffic it is time to start creating a website. Most marketers spend far too much time worrying about how their website will look or on choosing the perfect domain name, the truth all of this has very little bearing on your success when it comes to making money. The key is to get lots of keyword related content created and put it up on your website. A big part of performing at your peak is knowing what is important and what isn’t. Most marketers spend far too much time on the stuff that isn’t important.
The next step is probably the most critical to success and at the same time it is the one that most internet marketers will put the least amount of effort into. You need to optimize your site for search engines. Really that is just a fancy way of saying that you need to get links to your site since that is far and away the most important aspect of SEO. This is time consuming and boring and most marketers hate doing it, which is the reason that they fail. You may hate doing it but SEO is critical to performing at your peak and being a successful internet marketer.
Something that most internet marketers do that is rarely talked about is outsourcing, the truth is that very few people build a successful online business by doing all the work themselves. Making money online requires a lot of tedious work and trying to do it all your self is going to slow you down. Performing at your peak means knowing when you need help and know what can be outsourced and what can’t. Most people will outsource the content creation which is a good idea, some people will also outsource the SEO, which isn’t as good an idea but will probably work. What you don’t want to do is outsource any of the really important tasks like keyword research, a lot of people try to do this and they are the ones who inevitably fail.
Very few people make any real significant money with just one website, usually they have several of them, often dozens. Many people try to build one giant site that they hope will be massively profitable. This approach rarely works, a far better way to make money online is by creating many smaller sites. Performing at your peak as an internet marketer means understanding that it is a volume business and the more sites you have the better your chances of success.
