Content Creation vs Traffic Creation

I think one of the biggest issues for me in blogging is how much time I should commit to each aspect of it. As I mentioned earlier, there are different times in the life of your blog that you will have to focus on different aspects, but creating content and driving traffic are two aspects that will always be there.

Theses are two aspects that will always be fighting for your time. Content without traffic is useless, and traffic without content is even more useless. But finding the right balance between creating quality content and driving targeted traffic can often be the make or brek for your blog.

Most of us will prefer one or the other. But few of us love to do both. Perhaps you just love creating content, and you have neither the time nor the inclination to get some traffic. Or maybe your writing skills are similar to a crabs, but you can get traffic in a heart beat. This creates a dilemma, because you really need to be able to do both.

Fortunately for you, there are a few options.

1. Teach yourself to do both. You can teach yourself to write better, and be more creative. You can also teach yourself to optimize your site, and to find traffic. But this is often really hard, and will take you a lot of time to do.

2. Get a partner. If you can get a ton of traffic, you might need to find someone who can create good content, but needs help with traffic, and work with them on a blog or a site. Or the other way around.

3. Outsource. You can outsource either the content creation, or the traffic generation. There are a lot of freelancers that can do both for you. This will cost you money that you might not get back. Or that could take you years to recoup.

4. You could take the long haul approach. If you can create the content, you could focus all your activities on just creating content. You could spend a few dollars buy one or two links, and get your site indexed. This will mean that Google will crawl your site, and the more content you produce the more your site is crawled, the more likely you are to get traffic.

So all is not lost if you are only really good at one of the two aspects.
